Burma Protests
Burma Action Group (BAG)

At the IFEX General Meeting in Montevideo, Uruguay in early October, over 20 participants set up a Burma Action Group to support Burmese protesters and journalists in their struggle against the recent military crackdown in the country. The group, led by the Southeast Asian Press Alliance (SEAPA), plans to focus on ensuring an investigation into the death of Japanese photojournalist Kenji Nagai, the reporters in jail and the plight of Burmese journalists in exile. Campaign in Colombia
Colombia

The Colombia-based Foundation for Press Freedom (FLIP), in collaboration with the Institute for Press and Society (IPYS), developed a short-term letter writing and publicity campaign between October and December 2006, the first part of an emerging effort in the region. With IFEX support, the groups demanded that the Colombian President address the problem of attacks and threats by paramilitary groups, that have led to self-censorship, displacement, and loss of physical integrity among journalists and media support organisations.
